A review and preview of our STEP Training 2023/2024 (Straw Bale Building Training for European Professionals) in Castro Marim, Algarve, Portugal from January-March.
Learn how to build a straw bale house in 8 weeks, including natural materials, planning a straw bale house, construction, infill insulation, load bearing straw bale building and retrofitting (wrapping with bales), finishing with clay plaster and lime render, building physics to make your house energy efficient, windproof and airtight and calculation of the building costs.
All you need to work as a "certified straw bale builder", participate in the construction of your own cozy straw bale house or work as a builder or trainer in sustainable construction.

Construction plan for straw bale house with Lorenz Modules - step by step

We will build this modular straw bale house with Lorenz DD Walls 34cm in autumn 2023. Here is the construction plan - step by step -, the modules are built in our strawhenge-system (only full modules, space between is made onsite with infill-workshop. Outside this house will be planked with 6cm VestaEco straw boards and then directly plastered.

Example of straw bale CUT construction walls with diagonal bracing on the inside, to also brace the main visible barn construction. Roof is made with insulated Steico joists (you also can do it with 6x36cm construction wood) and Agepan DWD as second rainproof layer. Roof overhang executed with counterbattes from the ventilation area.

A short comment on the bicycle situation at Qta da Fornalha. I don't believe that the bike situation has changed significantly, since February 2022, where there were not more than TWO bikes that were in a state you could say "works!". So, don't count on that. Furthermore, volunteers at the farm will probably also use them. Best idea: take foldable bikes from home, if space in transportation is an issue. The trains work well.

She didn't use the chainsaw
She used a circular chainsaw, it's the same principle of cutting, just with an angle grinder.

hallo Franz, vielleicht ist es zeit die ganzen Richtlinien neu zu überdenken. Statik ist Statik, aber muss man vorgeschrieben bekommen immer eckig und noch welche Dachpfannen man nehmen muss? hast du einen weg drum herum gefunden?
